	Golden Totara Tree Gift Box Price: $64.00
Podocarpus totara 'Aurea' (Golden Totara). Smart greenish foliage turning an attractive golden yellow. An excellent foliage plant which can be trimmed to make a dense hedge. Grows throughout most of New Zealand to approx 4m in height. Early Maori used the timber for making their waka (canoes) and it was particularly valued for carving. Maori custom dictated that for every totara felled a young totara tree had to be planted in its place to appease Tane, the god of the forest, for removing one of his children. Totara was also highly regarded by the settlers (considered to be a second only to kauri). It was used for wharf and bridge construction, railway sleepers, telegraph poles and general building. Golden Totara is a New Zealand native hybrid which is a smaller growing pyramidal form of the green totara (Podocarpus totara). It has a branching habit with yellow/golden foliage. 	Magnolia Tree Gift Box Price: $64.00
Magnolias are ancient trees with stunning white flowers that have a devine perfume. Currently in stock Magnolia figo which is an evergreen growing to approximately 3m. It is slow growing, has shallow roots and is dense. It is therefore an excellent choice for a flowering hedge and topiary. It has cream to purple coloured fleshy flowers with glossy dark green leaves, and a very string perfume that is reminiscent of bananas, tutti fruity gum or similar strong fruity smells. Grown in shade, Port Wine Magnolia shrubs grow more open and looser and as such may grow taller than expected. Port wines grown in sunny situations tend to be more compact with denser foliage. It has an Evergreen lifecycle and tends to bloom in early spring. It is normally fairly low maintenance and quite easy to grow, as long as a level of basic care is provided throughout the year. Being aware of the basic soil, sun and water preferences will result in a happier and healthier plant. Magnolias are generally hardy and can be grown throughout NZ. Generally Magnolia's are easy care plants prefering sun - part shade. Magnolias like a cool root zone as they are surface rooting plants, so a good mulch after planting will help ensure you have a happy plant. Once established Magnolias generally don't need much feeding, but an annual application of compost, in addition to mulch, will encourage strong healthy growth. *Alternative varieites such as Little Gem may be substituted depending on availability. 	Camellia Tree Gift Box Price: $64.00
Camellia are always a welcomed addition to any garden as most generally flower through the winter months. Camellia can grow from a small shrub to a tree of approximately 3-4 meters. Flowering from early winter to late spring, they are excellent for the winter garden. Japonicas will stand full sun, if cared for while establishing (watering and mulching over the summer) but are a little better with shade at some part of the day. 	Kauri Tree Gift Box Price: $64.00
Agathis australis One of Aotearoa's most well known trees and while not the tallest of our native trees it is the largest and most majestic tree of our forest. Kauri grows naturally north of Hamilton but it can grow throughout lowland New Zealand (up to 600m). Given the right conditions kauri will grow rapidly in the first 10 - 15 years but thereafter growth is slow (reaching 9 - 12m at 30 - 40 years). Kauri prefer well drained soil with ample moisture. Young kauri trees need to be protected from frost and wind. For the Maori, kauri was favoured for making large war canoes. They used the gum for chewing and in a tattooing pigment. Kauri gum was sought after by early settlers for industrial use, primarily in varnish and they used the wood for ship building and house construction. Sophora "Dragons Gold" Kowhai is our national flower and justifiably so with it's gorgeous pendulous golden yellow flowers. Kowhai is named after the Maori word for the colour yellow. Top Tips Kowhai lose their overwintering leaves pre flowering, the timing of which may vary depending on where they are grown and the season Kowhai will sulk and drop leaves if too cold, too hot, too wet or too dry.

Citrus 'Lemon Meyer' One of the best cropping Lemons for NZ gardens, practically cropping year round. 	Gardenia Tree Gift Box Price: $64.00
Gardenia are attractive, low maintenance evergreen shrubs with glossy leaves and snow white flowers, which have a gorgeous heady perfume. They require a warm sunny area in the garden and as they are frost tender, they need a frost free site or protection. Suited to frost free, warm areas within the North and South Island. Trees Please! currently stock either Gardenia Professor Pucci, Gardenia augusta Veitchii or Gardenia Golden Magic depending on availabilty and time of the year. All grow to approximately 1.5m. Gardenias are native to Eastern Asia. They prefer humus-rich, well drained, neutral to acid soils. Protect from wind and direct afternoon sun. Gardenia's flower in the warmer months of the year, usually from November to May. Keep them compact and in shape with a light prune after they've finished flowering at the end of autumn. Top Tip If both the new growth and older leaves are yellow, you have a nutritional problem: feed them with a complete fertiliser containing the major trace elements. Can be grown in a pot.
