Snowy Peak Ltd is New Zealand’s internationally successful fashion and design house. Established 25 years ago, Snowy Peak Ltd pioneered the use of possum fibre blended with Merino wool in 1992 and have perfected the technique in their Merinomink™ collections, creating the most beautiful light, soft and durable fabrics, knitted garments and accessories.

Merinomink™ is an exclusive blend of fine Merino wool and luxurious Brushtail possum fibre. The Brushtail possum fibre in Merinomink™ has a unique hollow structure. This gives it a high warmth to weight ratio, creating a warm and comfortable garment without bulk. Merinomink™ is wonderfully soft to touch, prevents pilling (rubbing) and washes extremely well.

Each garment is made individually to exacting quality standards, from fur selection through to yarn development and finally garment construction, at Snowy Peak Limited premises in Christchurch, New Zealand and sold in boutiques and prestigious department stores across Australia, North America, Europe and Asia.

The Brushtail possum is an animal introduced to New Zealand and is only found in Australia and New Zealand. In Australia the possum is a protected species (this should not be confused with the North American Opossum, which is a different animal), but in New Zealand they eat their way through 20,000 tonnes of native herbage each night, wreaking havoc on the natural environment.

Snowy Peak Ltd is committed to its vision to create a healthy, vital and dynamic future for this planet and its people through both its products and business activity. Each year they purchase very large amounts of possum fur, which produces significant funds for local communities through trapping programmes; provides jobs in areas suffering long-term unemployment, reduces adult possum numbers per annum, which in turn reduces the use of broadcast poisons, and contributes to the effort to protect native forest and birds.
